Binge-Worthy Medieval TV Shows of All Time

The common genres people often watch are comedy, action, romance, and thriller. These are the stereotypical go-to choices when you just want to be entertained after work or during your rest days. However, for some people like me, we mostly find ourselves drawn to something a bit different. Yes, I’m talking about medieval TV shows. I started watching these kinds of shows after I watched Game of Thrones, and since then, I have never looked back.

And now, since I’ve dedicated hours and hours watching medieval TV shows over the years, I’m confident to share with you some of the most binge-worthy shows out there. Most of them are available on select streaming services, so you don’t have to worry that much. Let’s start!

Pillars of the Earth

The Pillars of the Earth (2010)

Total Episodes: 8

This series is set in 12th-century England about the lives of people building a cathedral. If you’re into stories about betrayal, heartbreak, and the conflict between the church and the crown, you’ll love this series so much. The pacing was slow at first, but the story gets better with each episode. This is only a miniseries, but the story was so satisfying. I was honestly impressed by how much ground the story covered in just a few episodes.

Medici (2016)

Total Episodes: 16

Medici was a fan favorite, and I couldn’t blame all those people because it’s really good. The story is about the Medici family. They are a powerful family in 15th-century Florence, so there is a lot of family drama, politics, betrayal, and everything in between. You know how it usually goes with family politics. What I really loved about this series, aside from the plot, is the details, including the locations and the costumes of the cast. There were some inconsistencies, but it was a great show, nonetheless. I highly recommend you have a fast internet service provider before starting this series. Trust me on this one.

Galavant (2015)

Total Episodes: 18

If you don’t like musical TV shows, you can skip this. But if I were you, I’d give it a try. Galavant is a medieval comedy musical. Yep, it’s a strange combination but it somehow worked for many people. The show doesn’t take itself seriously at all, which is why I love it so much. It’s about a once-great knight named Galavant who’s on a hilarious quest for love and revenge. It’s super silly, but it’s extremely entertaining.

If you’re planning to watch this, you can watch it on some streaming services. Before, it was available on Netflix and Disney+. You can check if it’s still there or if it’s also available on other platforms like DISH TV. You wouldn’t have a hard time looking because it’s widely available.

The Tudors (2007)

Total Episodes: 38

The Tudors is based on the reign of King Henry VIII, and if you know anything about his story, you already know that it’s full of drama. The entire show is all about his political alliances, betrayals, marriages, and all the chaos. Unfortunately, it’s not 100% historically accurate, but the series is so addictive. I really recommend it, especially if you enjoy historical dramas with romance and politics.

The cast is honestly one of the best parts of the show. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays King Henry, and while he doesn’t exactly look like the real Henry VIII, his acting skills were enough for me to believe in his version of King Henry.

Wrapping Up

These are my favorite medieval TV shows that I think many of you will enjoy watching. I kept my list short and simple because I still have a lot to say when it comes to this genre. There are so many underrated gems out there that deserve more attention, and I’m hoping to share more of them soon. Happy watching!
