Godwinson would be crowned King in January 1066, setting in motion a violent year of battles and bloodshed.

King & Conqueror Synopsis
King & Conqueror is the story of a clash that defined the future of a country – and a continent – for a thousand years, the roots of which stretch back decades and extend out through a pair of interconnected family dynasties, struggling for power across two countries and a raging sea. Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy were two men destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; two allies with no design on the English throne, who found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown.
James Norton (Happy Valley) stars as Harold Godwinson and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones, Shot Caller) as William of Normandy. Other cast members include Clémence Poésy as Matilda, Emily Beecham as Edith, Luther Ford as Tostig, Ingvar Sigurdsson as Fitzosbern, Eddie Marsan as King Edward and Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson as Harold Hardrada.
King & Conqueror will premiere in August 2025 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Paramount holds the global rights and hopefully will be available in the US and other countries on Paramount+.
