It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the Number One Medieval Halloween Movie as chosen by me, the Archivist! It was a tough choice for the number one movie. The movie in the Number Two spot conjures great memories of late night movie watching with my sister in a dark, sometimes spooky basement. Hiding under our Scooby-Doo blanket so the monsters couldn’t see us!
But in the end Black Death won the top spot, nostalgia aside. Starring Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) Eddie Redmayne (Pillars of the Earth) and Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones), The Black Death follows the Knight Ulric (Bean) and monk Osmund (Redmayne) as they are sent to a village that remains untouched by the Plague. At the village they meet Langiva (van Houten) and their journey into hell begins.
When I first watched Black Death I wasn’t expecting much. I figured I’d sit for a couple of hours and then wish it had been shorter. But this film was excellent! After they reach the village you will be on the edge of your seat for the rest of the movie. You can borrow my Scooby-Doo blanket if you want!
This Halloween you need to watch Black Death!
It’s available to stream on Tubi TV and it’s free on Amazon Prime Video for members (non Prime members can watch it for $2.99)
