Netflix released the official trailer for the upcoming Vikings spinoff, Vikings: Valhalla.
The trailer focuses on the legendary Vikings Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), Freydís Eiríksdottir (Frida Gustavsson) and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). Spoiler, Harald Sigurdsson is better known as Harald Hardrada. There is a brief glimpse of the the English nobility, Earl Godwin of Wessex (David Oakes) and Edmund Ironside (Louis Davison).
There’s one big continuity issue that I see and it’s the inclusion of Harald Hardrada from the start. Leif Eriksson died in 1020 at the age of 50, Hardrada was born in 1015. In the series they appear to be roughly the same age. In actuality there is a 45 year difference and they certainly never fought together.
It will give us something to deconstruct as the series goes on.
Netflix ordered 24 episodes of Vikings: Valhalla. Season 1 will be eight episodes. Filming on Season 2 wrapped in November 2021. If Season 2 is also eight episodes we will see at least three season of Vikings: Valhalla.
Vikings: Valhalla premieres on Netflix on 25 February 2022.
