“The Witcher” series coming to Netflix

The Witcher is a series of six books written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The first novel Blood of Elves was published in 1994 and follows the exploits of Geralt of Rivia, a witcher. In the books ‘witchers’ are monster hunters with extraordinary abilities learned from a young age.

The Witcher series was adapted into a successful video game series in 2007 with multple sequels. There is also a Polish film and Polish TV series based on The Witcher books.

Due to the popularity of the video games and the huge fan base Netflix acquired the rights and filmed an 8-episode original series starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia.

The Witcher synopsis:

The Witcher follows the story of Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a solitary monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

The Witcher premieres on Netflix on 20 December 2019. Netflix recently announced they renewed The Witcher for Season 2 and the show hasn’t even premiered! Showrunner Lauren Hissrich says she has six more season planned out. There are also rumors Netflix is developing an animated series as well.
