Knight Fight premiered on the HISTORY Channel (USA) last week, 23 Jan 2019. It premieres on HISTORY UK on 19 Feb 2019. Host and WWE superstar Jay “Christian” Reso, is joined by judges Andre Sinou, Co-Founder and Creator of the Armored Combat League, and John Clements, Director of the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts.

I watched the first episode and it appears they will all follow the same format. In the beginning six knights square off in a ring for three rounds. The top three knights advance to the team melee round. The remaining three knights face off again for the final spot.

In the second segment, the Team Melee round, the four knights are paired up and given weapons and armor from a specific time period. In episode 1 it was Vikings vs Byzantines of the 10th century. The two teams battle each other using the different weapons and armor for two rounds. The panel of judges decide the winners.

The winning team face each other in a final duel. In the final battle they are each given a new weapon they must wield against each other. The winning knight takes home a $10,000 prize and secures a spot in the grand finale tournament against all other weekly champions.

Overall the first episode was OK. There are certainly some hard hits and nasty injuries. From a history perspective it’s a little light. They briefly go over the history of the weapons and armor in each segment, but it feels scripted and forced. While it would be great to get more of the history, I’m guessing they are going to focus on the battles and hard hits. The DVR is set to record so I’ll watch the first season and see how it develops.

Below is a trailer for the UK Premiere.

Knight Fight Synopsis:

“Knight Fight” steps inside the world of the full-contact Armored Combat League — often referred to as “Medieval MMA” or “Knight Fight Club.” This blood sport is a full-contact armored combat league where modern-day warriors battle in over eighty pounds of plated armor with real steel weapons. Rooted in historical traditions, for the first time, these knights are set to wage war as each episode features six new fighters who customize era-specific armor, garb and weaponry and engage in numerous battle rounds to see who has the skill and strength to win the ultimate Knight Fight. Hosted and judged by WWE superstar Jay “Christian” Reso, the winner walks away with a championship title, $10,000 and a spot in the season finale for a chance to become the first ever “Knight Fight” champion.
