I have to say, I’m impressed about your blood eagle prediction. It was spot on.

And, it was cool that I knew what a blood eagle was. As soon as Ragnar said he was going to give Borg the blood eagle, I hit pause and explained to my wife what it was. She was stunned when it matched what Ragnar said.

As for Athelstan, here’s what I think is going on. We’re towards the end of the so called Dark Ages. Much of the scientific and cultural information in the world was controlled by the Church. Certainly, something written in Latin could only be read and understood by someone with Church training.

Ecbert doesn’t really trust the Church because he doesn’t control them.

In Athelstan, Ecbert sees a way to access this knowledge without the Church knowing. If Athelstan gives him any lip, Ecbert will just turn him over to the Church and Athelstan will find himself nailed to a tree again.

brianpcombs That’s awesome! Impressing the wife is always a good thing!

I like your theory on Athelstan, I think you may be right. Ecbert is a cunning man.

Thanks for listening to the show.
