Snow White and the Huntsman tells the familiar tale of Snow White made popular by the 1937 Walt Disney movie. But this is not a live action remake of the Disney movie. It is retold in a dark and medieval world more akin to the original Brothers Grimm story.

Snow White and the Huntsman stars Kristen Stewart (Twilight) as Snow White, Charlize Theron (Italian Job, Hancock) as Aavenna, the Evil Queen, Chris Hemsworth as Eric, the Huntsman (Thor) and Sam Claflin (Pillars of the Earth, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) as Prince Charman.

I have never seen a Twilight movie so I cannot comment on how Kristen Stewart will do as Snow White. But the rest of the cast should be great. Although I must admit I have a hard time seeing how Stewart is ‘fairer’ than Charlize Theron! I guess that’s why it’s a fairy tale.

The Snow White tale is not complete without the seven dwarves. And there are some big names playing them!

The Dwarves:
  • Ian McShane as Caesar
  • Eddie Izzard as Tiberius
  • Bob Hoskins as Constantine
  • Toby Jones as Claudius
  • Eddie Marsan as Hadrian
  • Stephen Graham as Nero
  • Ray Winstone as Trajan
  • Nick Frost as Gus

If you count them you can see they added a dwarf. There are eight in the movie. But no Doc, Dopey or Sneezy. So far the only pictures of the dwarves are on the movie poster, standing behind Snow White.

Snow White and the Huntsman is scheduled for a Summer 2012 release in the United States. Rumor has it that this is the first movie in a planned trilogy. While I’m not 100% on board with the movie I am definitely intrigued by it. Below is the first trailer and photos of the cast.

Hi! Sorry to burge in…Stewart is a good actress though you cannot tell it from the Twilight Saga. I’m curious to see if Charlize will do a good job or not as the Evil Queen…the trailer is good…but somehow I don’t feel the urge to watch the film – maybe is not much of a trailer…the dwarves were (almost) completely cut off!

It’s a good premiss but judging by the trailer I’ll stick to the older version with Sam Neil and Siogurney Weaver…

…But maybe (and hopefully) I’ll be wrong!

I haven’t seen Stewart in any movie so I can’t say how she will be as a lead actress. The Twilight fans might carryover and give the movie a boost in ticket sales.

I hope they release some photos or another trailer that highlights the dwarves soon. Overall I will need to see more trailers to be convinced to see this in the theater.

I never saw the Sigourney Weaver version of Snow White. I just added it to my Netflix queue, thanks!
