Castle visitors step back to medieval times

Ailsa Castle visitors step back to medieval timesVisitors to Caldicot Castle found themselves stepping back in time this weekend with two days of real life medieval history.

The event, organised by the Early Medieval Alliance, saw armoured knights and archers parading through the castle’s historical encampments alongside Middle Age men and women who stopped to chat with visitors about life in the 15th century.

Families visiting from 2010 had the chance to shop in a medieval market or learn about early guns.

The finale of the weekend was a re-enactment of a battle between Welsh rebels loyal to Owain Glyndwr and the English custodians of the castle.

Chairman of the Early Medieval Alliance Ann Horton said she hoped the weekend had offered visitors the opportunity to learn something new while enjoying the beautiful setting of Caldicot Country Park and Castle.
